A good place to begin

Happy New Year!

Welcome to 2019!

You know my head was saying 2019 but I still wrote 2018 and then corrected myself. Does that also happen to you at the beginning of a new year?

I’m excited for this year. No fancy reasons, I’m just grateful and excited for this gift.

As I was thinking about the year ahead I remembered a note I had written while studying a plan in the bible app I use(Youversion). And I went back to it.

Lately I had been struggling to pray, and reading this again helped guide me. It is something I would like to put before me as I soar into the year. And I thought to share it.

But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.
Matthew 6:6 KJV

But thou, when thou prayest enter into the closet.

But thou.

But Tamie, when you pray…

This is a personal statement. It directed to whoever is reading it at the moment.

Personalize it.

The closet is a private place.
It isn’t on the ‘road’. It is inside/away/set apart

It is okay to go some place private and pray.

And when thou has shut the door pray to thy father which is in secret

Normally when you step into a closet you can either leave the door open or shut the door.

For a minute picture yourself in a closet, door shut ….all alone praying (speaking to your father)

This is such a personal moment.

I know there are different sizes of closets but I would like to picture my self in a small to medium one …not a large one, I like the intimate feel of that picture/size.

Nothing is really said about how the prayer should be said ..loud words or whispers .. prayer can be either.

However when you shut yourself in the closet, it isn’t about deliberately drawing attention to yourself..it isn’t about shouting so people outside the closest can hear what you’re saying or how you’re praying or know how long you’ve been there..

..if that’s what you want you can as well stay outside of the closet and pray.

What really matters is the heartfelt words you share with your father in that moment where you’re all alone with your father.

If the spirit leads you to get loud and shout and scream that’s fine, as long as it isn’t done to seek anyone’s attention.

Thy father who sees in secret shall reward you openly

Secret – something hidden, private.
God sees in secret..he knows every, he hears every ..

He sees the hearts intention even before entering the closet..

If you are only comfortable in (telling him secrets) whispering to him, he will hear you!

If I am only comfortable in whispering to him, he will hear me!

There is something comforting knowing that the God who created the whole universe hears me.

The one who freely gives me the gift of a brand new day/week/year, hears me. That I can talk to him about my day, my year.

Indeed it is such a beautiful gift.
